Liberal Democrat Manifesto for South Bucks District Council elections on May 3, 2007
The Liberal Democrat candidates at the forthcoming election seek your vote because they want to represent you to the best of their ability not only at meetings of the Council but also when you have concerns which they can contribute to solving.
The Liberal Democrat candidates will be guided in what they do by these principles and policies:
Provide services which are good value for money and make local democracy work by consulting residents about the options when Council Tax rises are being discussed
Work to improve access to services and facilities by all sections of the community
Ensure decent housing for every family and individual in the district and pay particular attention to the housing needs of key public sector workers
Give top priority to the environment in all planning matters, protect the Green Belt and encourage brown field development and make sure that every policy we promote is environmentally sustainable
Oppose a third runway at Heathrow and allow nothing to stop Chiltern Railways running an excellent commuter service
Encourage and expand recycling schemes and encourage more residents to sort their waste and to participate
Support neighbourhood watch schemes, neighbourhood policing and the employment of sufficient police community support officers
Encourage initiatives which foster a vibrant local community, such as farmers' markets
Promote public transport and other alternatives to private cars so that pollution is reduced and the roads are made safer
Support provision of cycleways and secure parking for bicycles
Do all we can to make South Bucks a caring, friendly and safe community in which to work and live
