Peter Chapman - Liberal Democrat candidate for Beaconsfield

Beaconsfield Liberal Democrats have nominated Peter Chapman to be their candidate in this constituency. Peter has lived in Gerrards Cross since 1977. He is married and has two adult children, who went to local grammar schools in the early 1990s.

Peter ran a small business in Slough for 20 years but sold it in 2002. Since then, Peter has been a member of Gerrards Cross Parish Council and is currently vice-chairman.

Peter has plenty of experience to help him as a MP. "I worked in multinational manufacturing companies for 17 years before deciding that I preferred the small business sector. After selling that business, I have done voluntary work in the criminal justice system, and learnt a lot about education in Bucks by serving on education appeal tribunals.

Just recently I have joined the Independent Monitoring Board (which used to be known as the Board of Visitors) of Aylesbury Young Offenders Institution."

Peter likes both the style and the policies of the Liberal Democrats. "I get really turned off by the yah-boo name calling between Tony Blair and Michael Howard and I was very upset that Tony Blair misled us over the reasons for going to war in Iraq and seems quite unapologetic about it."

"I want politicians to be trusted again and I want to show people that government can be open, fair and honest. I want every citizen to be well-educated, to contribute the maximum he or she can to society and for all of us to look after pensioners with respect and dignity in old age. It all comes down to the old saying - treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself."
