A crisis cabinet meeting on January 23 revealed that desperate measures are required to balance the Council's books for the next financial year.

Besides the already announced plans to close 8 libraries, it was suggested that equally drastic measures would also be needed, for example switching off every other street light, stopping Sunday bus services and stopping rural road maintenance.

Liberal Democrat County Councillor for Iver, Alan Oxley, is fighting to save 2 libraries within Iver, one in Richings Park and one in Iver Village.

After listening to the cabinet meeting on Monday, January 23, Alan was even more convinced that Council Tax has to go.

"Liberal Democrats have been campaigning to axe the tax for three years because it is unfair on pensioners, single parents and other low-income households. Now we see that it can't even deliver the basic services we need. It has to go" said Alan.
